KATHERINE BOO(2018)

Katherine Boo’s nonfiction account of families in a Mumbai slum, Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity, received the 2012 National Book Award for Nonfiction as well as prizes from PEN and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. It has been translated into 25 languages. It was also adapted by David Hare as a play at the National Theatre. Her previous investigative work on disadvantaged communities received a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and a MacArthur Foundation Genius Award. Formerly a reporter on the investigative staff of the Washington Post, Boo has been a contributing writer for The New Yorker since 2001.
