Katherine Butler Schofield is a historian of music in Mughal India. Through stories about ill-fated courtesans, overweening maestros and captivated patrons she writes of sovereignty and selfhood, friendship and desire, sympathy and loss, and power, worldly and strange. Her latest book, with Imke Rajamani and Margrit Pernau, is Monsoon Feelings: A History of Emotions in the Rain.
