Anne C. Klein/Rigzin Drolma, PhD, is a professor of religious studies at Rice University and a lama in the Nyingma (ancient) tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. She is co-founder and director of Dawn Mountain Tibetan Buddhist Temple and Dawn Mountain Research Institute. Her publications include a few short stories, discussions of Buddhist philosophy and its relation to practice, and translations from the Tibetan. Her seven books include Knowledge and Liberation (translated into Russian and Chinese), Meeting the Great Bliss Queen: Buddhists, Feminists, and the Art of the Self, and Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse: A Story of Transmission, a chantable English translation from the Vast Expanse tradition and includes a CD of chanting in English and Tibetan. Her favorite short story is “The Mantra and the Typist” (listed by Harper Collins as among the most significant spiritual writings of 2001) and published in Nixon Under the Bodhi Tree: Buddhist Fiction.
