Forever Connected: Bhutan and Boulder

Forever Connected: Bhutan and Boulder

Her Majesty the Royal Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck’s profound belief in the connections between people, across borders of time and space, has forever joined Bhutan and Boulder.
Her Majesty is as gracious as you might imagine a representative of a country that measures Gross National Happiness to be. This morning she mesmerized the Jaipur Literature Festival crowd in Boulder Library’s Skyscapes’ venue with her stories about connections; connections with those who have lived before us, and those with whom we are connected now. Relating stories of reincarnation, of her travels around her own country, stories of her husband and King, and of the spiritual practices that sustain her connection to the divine, Her Majesty wove a beautiful tapestry of relationships that now includes Boulder.

She has fallen in love with Boulder and its landscape and people. Since the Governor of Colorado has declared September 24, 2016, as “Her Majesty the Royal Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck and Jaipur Literature Festival Day,” it seems that Boulder and Colorado love her in return.

Change is the only constant in our world, but connections with the past, with each other across borders, and within the realm of the spirit, can make change not only bearable, but make us feel at home.
