Philip Murphy is Professor of British and Commonwealth History at the University of London and director of History & Policy at the Institute of Historical Research. From 2009 to 2022 he was director of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. His books include Monarchy and the End of Empire and The Empire’s New Clothes: The Myth of the Commonwealth.
