About JLF Valladolid 2024
The second edition of JLF Valladolid will be held from 13th to 16th June 2024, in Valladolid, Spain. The festival will begin on June 13th with an opening ceremony in Madrid and the following day, June 14th, will see the official inauguration in Valladolid, followed by a diverse programme across multiple venues at the iconic eighteenth century Campo Grande Park of Valladolid (book square, music stage) as well as other venues including Valladolid City Hall, Casa de la India, Santa Cruz Palace of the University of Valladolid and Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine Hotel and Winery in the famous Ribera de Duero wine region which dates back to the 12th Century. Like the first landmark edition that marked the first JLF in a non-English speaking country, this one too promises an immersive experience, blending sessions with music, food, art, heritage, and walks. The first edition had featured speakers such as Vikram Chandra, Kabir Bedi, Shashi Tharoor, Namita Gokhale, Deepti Kapoor, Bruno Macaes, Javier Moro, Oscar Pujol and musicians like Usha Uthup, Kutle Khan Project, Vidya Shah and Germán Díaz, among others.
JLF Valladolid Spain embodies the multi-faceted spirit of the Jaipur Festival, with a caravan of writers and thinkers, poets, balladeers and raconteurs, to become a bridge between the diverse and vibrant literatures of India and the Spanish speaking world. It brings writers from these two flourishing cultures under one umbrella in a dynamic literary, artistic and linguistic dialogue in English and Spanish - in Valladolid, a city that boasts of one of the finest Indian cultural centres globally, the Casa de la India.
JLF Valladolid Spain reinforces the spirit of telling ‘each other’s stories’ that comprises the essence of JLF’s identity: “Words are Bridges”.
Valladolid is known to be a city of culture, heritage, and gastronomy, and more specifically as a city of literature (home to Miguel de Cervantes, José Zorrilla, Miguel Delibes). It is therefore fitting that Valladolid will be JLF’s first landmark venue in the Spanish -speaking world.
The 17th edition of the iconic annual Jaipur Literature Festival, the inspiration behind the many international editions of JLF, was held in the Pink City of Jaipur, Rajasthan, between February 1 and 5, 2024. JLF Valladolid will bring the energy, substance and vigour of the grand source festival and infuse it with the identity of the host country, along with South Asia’s distinctive literary flavours. To ensure that the audience, primarily European, participate in all the sessions, the main venue will offer simultaneous translations in both English and Spanish for the attendees' convenience.
In addition to sessions with the world’s leading writers, thinkers and dignitaries engaging in narratives about books and ideas, workshops featuring music, dance, yoga, and more, led by Indian and Spanish artists, will be held at the designated workshop venue. Morning Music will signal sublime beginnings from June 14th and 16th, featuring performances by Indian and Spanish artists, while evenings will showcase vibrant music concerts on those days.

La segunda edición del JLF Valladolid se celebrará del 13 al 16 de junio de 2024, en Valladolid, España. El festival comenzará el 13 de junio con una ceremonia de apertura en Madrid y al día siguiente, el 14 de junio, tendrá lugar la inauguración oficial en Valladolid, seguida de un variado programa a través de múltiples sedes en el icónico Parque Campo Grande de Valladolid del siglo XVIII (plaza del libro, escenario musical) así como otros sedes como el Ayuntamiento de Valladolid, la Casa de la India, el Palacio de Santa Cruz de la Universidad de Valladolid y el Hotel y Bodega Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine, en la famosa región vinícola de Ribera del Duero, que data del siglo XII. Al igual que la primera edición, que supuso el primer JLF en un país de habla no inglesa, esta segunda edición también promete una experiencia envolvente, mezclando sesiones con música, gastronomía, arte, patrimonio y paseos. El JLF Valladolid España encarna el espíritu polifacético del Festival de Jaipur, con una caravana de escritores y pensadores, poetas, baladistas y cuentistas, para convertirse en un puente entre las diversas y vibrantes literaturas de la India y del mundo hispanohablante. La 17 ª edición del icónico festival anual de literatura de Jaipur, inspiración de las numerosas ediciones internacionales del JLF, se celebró en la ciudad rosa de Jaipur, Rajastán, entre el 1 y el 5 de febrero de 2024. El JLF Valladolid aportará la energía, la sustancia y el vigor del gran festival de origen y le infundirá la identidad del país anfitrión, junto con los sabores literarios distintivos del sur de Asia. Para garantizar que el público, principalmente europeo, participe en todas las sesiones, la sede principal ofrecerá traducción simultánea en inglés y español para mayor comodidad de los asistentes.
Además de las sesiones con algunos de los escritores, pensadores y representantes institucionales más destacados del mundo, que participarán en mesas redondas y conversaciones sobre temática diversa, se celebrarán talleres de música, danza, yoga y mucho más, dirigidos por artistas indios y españoles. La música matinal marcará, como es costumbre en el festival, el arranque de cada jornada entre los días 13 y16 de junio, con actuaciones de artistas indios y españoles, mientras que las veladas musicales ofrecerán la oportunidad de disfrutar de apasionantes conciertos durante esos días.

Even amidst the upheaval and unsettling times of 2020 and through 2021, Teamwork Arts successfully launched the digital series, ‘JLF Brave New World’ and ‘Words Are Bridges’, which were viewed by over 4.8 million people in their first season. Through its digital avatar, the Jaipur Literature Festival reached over 27 million viewers in January 2021 and brought together the world’s leading commentators and writers. Amidst the pandemic, Teamwork Arts also created ‘Art Matters’ - an initiative empowering artistes across India to collaborate across genres by commissioning them to create new works. It has since then raised awareness, actioned change, developed support channels and inspired the community to contribute to the cause in various direct and indirect ways. The digital series ‘Be Inspired’ was launched in 2021 – a series that crystal-gazes into the future with conversations on science, technology, innovation, environment and more.
