Vidya Balan is an Indian actor, recognised as the first female shero of modern Hindi cinema. She has transformed the representation of women in Bollywood, paving the way for younger female actors. Balan has received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri, a National Film Award, and multiple Filmfare and Screen Awards. She represented Indian cinema on the global stage as a jury member at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, with Steven Spielberg as the jury chair. Known as the torch-bearer of female-centric films in Hindi cinema, she has starred in movies like The Dirty Picture, Paa, Ishqiya, Kahani, Tumhari Sulu, Shakuntala Devi, Sherni, and Jalsa. In addition to her cinematic achievements, Balan is also respected for her support of humanitarian causes, such as sanitation, education, and women's empowerment.
