About JLF North Carolina

JLF North Carolina saw its debut in the vibrant university town of Chapel Hill, and the dynamic Research Triangle area, from September 27-28, 2024. This edition marked the expansion of the acclaimed Jaipur Literature Festival, renowned globally for its celebration of words and ideas.

Originating from the Pink City of Jaipur, Rajasthan, the 17th edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival in February 2024 was a resounding success, showcasing a stellar lineup of speakers and sessions. The Festival's enduring spirit captivated audiences both digitally and in-person, affirming its influence in the literary world.

Reflecting its international footprint, JLF editions have graced countries such as the US, UK, Spain, the Maldives, Australia, and the Middle-East. These festivals seamlessly blend the rich literary traditions of South Asia with the unique cultural essence of their host regions.

At JLF North Carolina, the inaugural event celebrated Chapel Hill's rich history, rooted in the Civil Rights era, and the scholarly legacy of the University of North Carolina. The region's vibrant arts community, including its renowned murals and community art, provided a fitting backdrop for this literary extravaganza.

The festival took place at the University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill, and the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, strategically located in the Research Triangle—comprising Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Durham—a hub known for its rapid growth driven by top-tier universities, thriving tech industries, and a rich cultural scene, encompassing arts, cuisine, and innovation.

Supported by Carolina Performing Arts, UNC Modern Indian Studies Initiative, Carolina Asia Center, UNC Global, UNC Institute for the Arts and Humanities, and other public and private partners across the state, JLF North Carolina proved to be a landmark addition to the JLF USA series. It succeeded in fostering intellectual exchange, artistic exploration, and cultural dialogue, contributing to the region's vibrant spirit of creativity and innovation.
