Philip A. Lutgendorf is Professor of Hindi and Modern Indian Studies at the University of Iowa and the author of “The Life of a Text: Performing the Rāmcaritmānas of Tulsidas” and “Hanuman’s Tale, The Messages of a Divine Monkey”. He has also written on Hindi popular cinema and the cultural history of chai. His new 7-volume translation of the Ramcharitmanas for the Murty Classical Library of India (http://www.murtylibrary.com/volumes.php) is in process. He serves as President of the American Institute of Indian Studies (http://www.indiastudies.org/).
