Srinivas Reddy

Srinivas Reddy is a scholar, translator and musician. He studied classical South Asian languages and literature at UC Berkeley and currently teaches at Brown University and IIT Gandhinagar. Reddy is also a concert sitarist and spends his time performing, teaching and conducting research around the world.

Srinivas Reddy’s Raya: Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara is a vivid and compelling account of one of the most dynamic and illustrious rulers of the Indian subcontinent. Krishnadevaraya was known not only for his political expansion throughout the Deccan but also for the cultural dynamism and the nurturing of ancient texts and tradition he encouraged in the milieu. Reddy is a translator, musician and academic who has also translated Krishnadevaraya’s Amuktamalyada and Kalidasa’s Meghadutam and Malavikagnimitram. In conversation with author Manu S. Pillai, he examines the splendour of Krishnadevaraya’s rule and its impact on the region.
